iPhone 3G in the Philippines to be released on August 22

So many people in the Philippines have been waiting for the Apple's iPhone launch here in our country. On August 22 the long wait will be over as Globe Philippines will launch the iPhone 3G officially on the Market.

But, Apple's promise of "Phone, iPod, and Internet in one fast 3G device. Starting at $199." is out of the way because Philippine telco announced that the company will sell the phone at a starting price of P41,899 for the 8GB model while the 16GB version will be priced at P48,899.

Whew! $199.00 wen converted to Php is just roughly Php 8700 using the current $ to PHP exchange rate. I was excited for about the iPhone launch before and assumed that this pricing will not be implemented here. I said to myself that maybe a doubled price will be the starting price. That's just about 17,400, I guess that is ok with me. I'll have an iPod and a Phone at the same time for just that much, I didn't care until i learned about this news.

For the Post-Paid pricing here's a quick reference:

• Plan 1599 (100 mins and 350 texts free) - P16,800 for the 8GB model, P22,300 for the 16GB variant.
• Plan 2199 (210 mins and 350 texts) - P14,600 / P20,000
• Plan 3299 (350 mins and 450 texts) - P12,300 / P17,800
• Plan 3999 (500 mins and 550 texts) - P5,600 / P11,000
• Plan 4999 (750 mins and 650 texts) - FREE / P5,500
